Maureen Becker and her business partner, Dorothy Ferrante, decided that with their professional backgrounds, they could work well together if they purchased the right business. For over 20 years, Becker owned a physical therapy practice in New York City and Ferrante owned a hair salon and boutique. Their combined medical and retail experience worked well with the InchesAWeigh business concept. The women saw a lot of opportunity for the concept in Arizona, and purchased a territory in the state 10 months ago. .
“InchesAWeigh offers a total program. There’s simply no other competition because of the 3-phase program where everything is under one roof. The nutritional component shows people how to eat real food and be healthy. In terms of exercise, we offer 2 categories…toning and cardio. We have clients that need to lose 10 pounds and others that currently weigh 400 pounds. It’s incredibly rewarding to own this business and show people how to do things the right way and help them to reach their goals,” explained Becker.
A Supportive, Caring Corporate Office Makes All the Difference
When choosing a business to own, the corporate office of a concept can either make or break the new business owners’ chance for success. In the case of InchesAWeigh, the corporate office, including company Founder, Scott Simcik, is highly involved in the growth of the concept and the potential success of their licensees. Becker explained, “There’s a lot of personalness, interaction and guidance with this company. It’s not as corporate as most franchise concepts. You’ll get to meet the Founder, Scott, and you’ll find that he is highly involved with the business.”
You do not necessarily need industry experience or business ownership experience to become the owner of an InchesAWeigh. Training and ongoing support is extremely thorough as Becker described; “They really walk you through everything! They did a tremendous demographic mapping job for us which pinpointed our ideal location. The training is very extensive and consists of both onsite, computer-based, and phone training. Plus, they came and helped us with our location’s grand opening and the ongoing support is exceptional. I just make a phone call if I have any questions or problems.”
A Rewarding Business at the Right Time
“Obesity is an epidemic. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women. There’s no better time to own this business and our system is so effective that doctors have become a major referral source for us. We are able to send reports to the referring physician to keep them updated on their patients’ progress,” said Becker.
Owning a rewarding business can make all the difference when it comes to being satisfied with your new career. “I would highly recommend this business to others that want to touch the lives of others. There’s no greater reward than seeing clients lose weight. As an owner, I’ve become so involved with my clients. It’s very rewarding to be in this business and you get a little healthier yourself in the process,” Becker explained.
She concludes, “We’ve been in business for 10 months and we currently have 266 members, which is phenomenal. We’re thrilled that we chose to purchase an InchesAWeigh business.”
