The International House of Pancakes (IHOP) is one of the most recognizable restaunt brands in the world. An American icon, IHOP serves yummy breakfast, lunch and dinner food at moderate prices in a comfortable, family-style atmosphere. IHOP restaurants is best known for their delectable pancakes, omelets and other breakfast items. However, they are open throughout the day and evening.
IHOP History
Founded by brothers Al and Jerry Lapin in 1958 the first IHOP restaurant opened in Toluca Lake, CA. The International House of Pancakes began offering franchises in 1960. In 1963, the company acquired numerous franchised brands, including Orange Julius, Golden Cup Coffee Shops, The Original House of Pies, and others. Today, more than 1,700 IHOP restaurants are in operation worldwide and the annual company-wide revenues exceed $2 billion.
Training
IHOP provides an initial training program, called IHOP Academy, for new franchisees. Trainees must pass online and practical tests which include observation and testing of on-the-job performance to demonstrate knowledge and skill level to advance from the Restaurant training program to the management training program, and to graduate from management training.
The training is broken into two parts:
- A six-week program approximately 45 to 50 hours per week
- A two-day capstone workshop held in major markets across the U.S.
